Tulsa entrepreneurs are unique in the world. How have your endeavor(s) added value to our community and the future of Tulsa?
Well, my endeavors on behalf of Tulsa include funding the Guthrie Green, the Woody Guthrie Center, and soon "A Gathering Place" on the river--oh, wait, that's George Kaiser. Damn, I always confuse the two of us. As for me, wow, just so, so many projects and foundations. Where do I begin? Let me get back to you. (I only have 250 words, right?)
If you aren’t failing, you aren’t succeeding. Share with us some of your failures to better understand how you have taken the lessons learned and applied them to support getting to where you are today.Never much liked the "if you aren't failing ...." mantra; otherwise, a friend of mine who's been married and divorced five times would be the most successful person I know, instead of the pathetic, bitter, misogynistic drunk he turned out to be. Personally, I'm more of a "Some people run up the hill, some people walk up the hill, and some people stand at the bottom of the hill and make fun of everyone in shorts" kind of entrepreneur. The lesson, clearly, simply: some should exercise in sweat pants.
Being creative is vital to an entrepreneurial endeavors success. Share an out-of-the-box experience that has made you stronger as an entrepreneur.Out-of-the-box, eh? Well, usually, I have mustard with my salt bagel--every morning, I order one salt bagel, one plastic container of mustard. For years, it's been that way. Well, one morning, I ordered it with cream cheese, as well; so I had mustard on one side AND cream cheese on the other--whew! You want to talk about living on the edge. There were people with muffins and cinnamon buns and black coffee and I could tell they were looking at me and thinking, "If only I had that kind of courage, that kind of creativity. If only I could take that kind of risk."
Tell us a story that involved you that either at the time or looking back makes you laugh.
I once shot a rifle in Poteau.
